#80 The Warrior

The warrior never uses power over

The warrior uses power for

The warrior never torments the weak

The warrior pushes the weak behind him so he can face the tormentors

The warrior defends and protects

The warrior is never aggressive, but dauntless

The warrior trains continuously

For it is better to be a warrior in a garden than to be a gardener in a war

The warrior never seeks violence

Unless violence is the only path to peace

The warrior understands people

For he can defend one man or a thousand by psychology alone

The sword in its scabbard preserves peace

But once the sword is removed, the warrior is prepared

The warrior is never a violent man

The warrior is a monster, who keeps his violence under constant conscious control

A soldier fights for those who order him

The warrior fights for those who depend on him

The warrior stands before his aggressors

Beside his brothers

And in front of his loved ones

The warrior is not the one who has no fear

But one who sets his fear aside to accomplish his task

The warrior doesn’t fight for his family because they are weak

He fights because his family is important

Diplomats continue talking because they know they will never be called upon to fight

Once the warrior is finished talking, be afraid

The warrior fights when it is right, or serves a greater purpose

Not when he is angry, or his ego bruised

The warrior stops fighting when the battle is won, and the aggressor is beaten

For enemy can become a friend if a battle serves to overcome or to defeat, not to humiliate

The warrior fights to defend

Not to conquer

A violent man is quick to talk and quick to fight

The warrior is patient before, during, and after battle

A violent man brags of his meager exploits

The warrior never divulges his expertise

The warrior never seeks validation outside himself

For he will be a slave to fleeting opinions forever

Once the warrior has fought for their welfare

The people should never claim they no longer need warriors
